Google Takeout Data Export Guide

WEB steps

Open Takeout
Path: takeout.google.com -> Deselect all -> choose products
Select only the Google products you want to export (for example Location History/Maps data). -
Configure export format and delivery
Path: Next step -> file type/frequency/destination
Choose ZIP export and set max file size for easier downloads.
Expected output: .zip -
Create export and download archive
Path: Create export -> email/download link -> unzip locally
Download the completed archive and extract files.
Expected output: .json/.kml/.csv (varies by product)
Convert to CSV
- If the exported product already includes CSV, upload it directly.
- If files are JSON or KML, convert to CSV with a trusted converter or desktop data tool.
- Keep timestamps and entity IDs as separate columns before upload.
Known limitations
- Takeout output format varies by Google product and can include non-CSV files.
- Large exports may be split into multiple ZIP archives.
